Finding Civilian Employment
Entering the civilian job market after the military is often uncharted territory. How do you know what employers are looking for in a new hire? What should you include on your resume? How does all the training you did in the military translate to what is needed for a new career? The Foothill WDB Veteran Navigators are veterans just like you, and we can help you determine your best next steps to connect with employers in our region and find a great new career. Our investments in veterans include training, certifications and attainment of industry standard credentials, employment placement, and career counseling.
Veterans Employment-Related Assistance Program (VEAP)
Interested in working in the fields of transportation, professional and business services, health services, law enforcement, project management or construction? Take note of VEAP, a program specially designed to prepare veterans for work in high demand industries and career paths.
VEAP provides veterans with education and work-readiness training, job placement assistance, mental health and behavioral services, and referrals for housing, transportation, and medical care – all at no cost to the veteran. Program participants are set up for success with a rigorous program of six required components:
- Comprehensive assessment
- Vocational training leading to an industry recognized credential/certification
- On-the-job training
- Job readiness and retention services
- Co-case management across partner agencies
- Employer engagement
FWDB’s Veteran Navigators, along with our partner agencies, work with you one-on-one to understand your needs and move you along the path to civilian employment in these growing industries.
California Employment Development Department: Services for Veterans
The Employment Development Department (EDD) assists veterans and their eligible spouses maximize their employment and training opportunities. The EDD veterans’ representatives specialize in assisting veterans in their efforts to return to work and are located in many local EDD offices, including Foothill WDB’s Pasadena location. Services provided include a veteran 24-hour priority hold on all job listings, customized job search assistance, job fairs, employer recruitments, and other events and resources. EDD veterans’ representatives are available on site at our Pasadena Career Center, making it easy for you to connect with them.
Veterans are encouraged to schedule an appointment with an EDD veterans’ representative for personalized services and assistance to achieve professional goals.
